Sheep farmer, I was wondering if maybe you could help me out.
I run cows. but need some chores that my 11 and 13 yr old can handle on their own.
Thinking of getting some feeder lambs for my kids to feed and take care of all summer.
I've got 5 acres of good grass under the trees that i only let the cows in once a yr.
I could run sheep in that, and i have paddock for them with water.
Not sure what ration i should have.
Plus what style feeders and water setup needed
Not sure if i just go up to SFRL and buy some there and sell them back up there when fat?
Either this or get back into hogs....
I'm going to supply the feed,
they have to do all the labor for the first run at least.
My email is good.
I have sheep also and if you have 5acres you could have enough ewes to keep a ram. You don’t want to finish lambs on pasture unless you want to worm them several times. I lamb early enough my lambs never go on pasture. When I wean the lambs the ewes are only let on the grass 2or3 hrs a day so your carrying capacity is greatly increased. If the lambs have been creep fed they they don’t miss a beat. Flush the ewes before breeding a then turn on stalks. The only real chores they might need help on is lambing. Way better chance for profit over buying lambs. Any questions I’m game. |
