northeastern Ohio | I've been with CHM for over 10 years. Had one claim about 5 years ago and they paid out in about 30 days. Just submitted another claim about 2 weeks ago.
I went with the Bronze Plus program: https://chministries.org/programs/ The Plus is an extra $42 per month, but extends the Bronze program to $1 million per illness. If you go Gold Plus or SeniorSharePlus, it is unlimited.
If you are studying the CHM programs, you will see that they all have a "personal responsibility". PR is similar to a deductible. But if you negotiate a discount greater than the PR, you pay nothing out of pocket.
The claim I just submitted had $85,000 in bills, but I negotiated it down to $5000. When I say negotiated, I simply mean that I asked for a discount for self-pay. The discounts ranged from 10% to 100%. I paid the discounted bills (total of $5000), submitted copies of the bills to CHM, and in 30-60 days I will get a check from CHM for $5000. Pretty easy.
CHM has been around for 44 years. They have an A+ with the BBB. They do have a few complaints on the BBB website, but the unresolved complaints were mostly because people didn't understand the rules for pre-existing conditions. They will cover some pre-existing conditions, but there are limitations in place that keep the CHM system from being overwhelmed by pre-existing conditions. If they made it unlimited for pre-existing conditions, our premiums would double, therefore the rules.
You can get 50% off your first month if you use their refer a friend program: https://info.chministries.org/raf-info
Read the rules and see if the CHM program would work for you. It is not for everyone. But it has worked fine for me.
