Given the circumstances, it seems you made a wise choice.  I've always thought seeing adults coming together and being supportive of each other at a time like this was a good thing.  If people are not getting along, the experience can be difficult enough for an adult, not to mention a child.  'Hope this all goes as smoothly and peacefully as possible for you and your family.
