ND | I think the same could be said about mineral and protein supplements too. Fly and lice control. and using artificial things to help make our cows more fertile or cycle together. they are nothing but crutches. we are developing females that need to be prompt up with all these different things in order to function. instead of letting the cow develop to its ecosystem and learn to thrive within the parameters of its environment, we spend an arm and a leg making a cow that only thrives when all the stars are perfectly aligned. Kip Pharro preaches alot about this. personally we run our herd like most everyone else. but everytime we go to put out mineral or tubs or worming the cows or trying to control flies, I wonder if we're actually doing the right thing. we've created animals that work great for the packer, but really aren't very practical for long term success in the cattle industry. | |
