NW Iowa | My home place is 117 acres.
The buildings is 10 acres more or less.
The true pasture is 34 and is cross fenced and i rotate.
51 is corn on corn every yr.
I chop 8 to 12 acres. Sell the rest of the corn.
Good corn is 26 ton/ acre
The rest is my paddocks that cows always come up in and i calve in.
I can run 70-80 cows here. And get by until sept when silage is cut.
Then i run the stalks.
I bale cornstalks on my other COC ground and bring in.
But here, you can buy bales for $25-30.
So $2500 will buy all the stalks you need.
50 head and i can run till Dec.
I can run more than 1 pair per acre.
This is black dirt so ii grows excellent grass and regenerates quickly.
I just picked up 25 acres of adjoining pasture.
So now i'll be able to stock pile and graze till Feb
Or bale all my winter feed needs.
So the numbers work alot better for me than
most guys.
In this environment if i wanted to. I could
actually make a living right off my farm place.
