cows-n-crops - 1/1/2026 00:24 150 acres row crops. Let's see: One day planting. 3 or 4 hours spraying. Maybe 5 or 6 depending on how many trips. One or 2 days harvesting. A few days hauling grain. Rest of the year free to do something else. Bridge payment on TOP!!! No government incentive to raise livestock and who wants to work every day?

You're forgetting a lot of other govt incentives to produce grains instead of livestock on that ground.    But you've pretty much covered why very very few acres ever go back to pasture after being in row crops.      If they go back to grass, its almost always rented to the govt (CRP) at tillable acre rent.
