Subject: RE: 2wd single axle semi vs 4wd pickup

East of Broken Bow
Know of a guy with a 6wd military truck pulling a gooseneck trailer around. I think it maxxes out at 60 or 65 MPH, but he doesn't go very far with it, pulls the trailer like nothing, and can get about anywhere.
Said he paid $15K for it, has an older Cummins engine in it, I think an Allison transmission, and air 4WD, air Diff Lock, and I think even air shift low range.
Not much of a pretty 'going to town' rig, but it sure gets the job done.

As to a single axle semi, I have one, and with GOOD grippy tires on it, it will get around somewhat better than a 2WD pickup, but not like a 4WD.
One thing you can do to improve traction, is run single rear wheels. Cut through the mud better, doesn't slide around near as much empty, and can still handle something like 14K on the rear axle if you get the right tires.
