mercer county, il | I would echo this. If you’re looking for feed, chop oats and peas follow with corn for silage. If you want cash crops fly some rye and turnips on before you combine the corn, graze the stalks, then graze the rye in the spring. Follow it with a summer annual mix to graze.
I think a lot of this system would be managment. Like strip grazing summer annuals, if it outruns the animals, be ready to chop or bale part of it and have it on hand for poorer production times or winter.
“Here” id think 160 acres, if it’s decent ground and mostly tillable could support 80 pairs easy, and probably background the calves to 8-900lb if it was done right. | |
