Alpena MI | I got into a bit of a stir with a few posters here this past summer that vow that lowering population in corn is a sure way to cut costs/raise ROI. This year's tests showed the same results I have been seeing in my tests over the past 4 years. This farm is fairly light dirt especially in the sub field indicated on the yield maps. We have been farming this piece 6 years now. We have applied chicken litter several of those years.
Our seed costs $165 a bag (Less for the M&W 93 and more for Becks 4672). Both varieties are NONGMO.
The planter is a Deere 1790 on 30" spacing with Precision Esets and 2 gallons of 10-34-00 in the row. Conventional tillage.
200# preplant UREA with 23 gallons of 28% thru Chafer streamer bars at V3. 200# KMAG post plant/pre-emerge.
