230 is very very impressive. What was your test weight? Canadian oats almost always are better tw.

In my part of north iowa variety selection for disease resistance and test weight are important. Here, test weight is everything. Contrary to your advice I’ve tended to seed at moderate populations to help with standability. Very heavy seeding in our black soils can really set the situation for very flat oats. As you know planting early is important as well as a possible fungicide pass. I think miravis ace is a good product.

In our lighter test weight environment, it’s somewhat common to turn up cleaning fan speed to blow out light weight oats and”pin oats”.
