Yes the corn head just pushes them over an inch.     I can't say that it causes a noticeable problem but were running a 1290 JD with Calmer stalk rolls.   If we get off the row 4-5" then its real noticeable on how well the stalks get chopped.

My cousins do the same thing with a Geringhoff Rota Disc.   They've never mentioned that it causes a problem.
