northeastern Ohio | I have never had either machine, so I asked Chatgtp to see if AI would help. I have no idea if this info is accurate, but here is the response:
On a 2006 CASE 430 skid steer, the serial number is stamped in a few places besides the missing data plate. CASE (CNH) was fairly consistent with these locations.
Most common serial number locations
Right-hand side of the main frame (cab side)
Look inside the cab, on the right frame rail
Usually below the cab door opening, near the loader arm pivot area
The number is stamped directly into the steel, not a tag
Often faint—use a wire brush, brake cleaner, or chalk to make it visible
Rear frame crossmember
On some units, it’s stamped on the rear frame, behind or above the engine compartment
Check the right rear corner, near where the lift arm structure ties into the frame
Under the cab floor
If the cab has ever been tilted, the serial number may be visible on the upper frame rail beneath the cab
This is common if the machine had a replacement cab or body panels
What it looks like
Typically 7–9 characters
Often starts with N8M or N9M (common CNH skid steer prefixes from that era)
Stamped directly into the frame steel (no rivets, no sticker)
If you still can’t find it
A CASE dealer can sometimes recover the serial using:
Engine serial number (not guaranteed)
Machine configuration in CNH service records
If this is for title, insurance, or theft verification, law enforcement or a CASE dealer may use etching or acid restoration to read faint stampings | |
