| Have to remember how small our population is. Most sale barns know who you are as a buyer and seller. If you’re in the seats bidding up open cull cows, the other buyers will notice and the barn owners notice. I have no doubt there are bad actors, as there are in all aspects of life. Word gets out to their neighbors and there will be a reckoning. A few years back there was a tb case that caused over 5000hd of neighboring cattle to be ran through the chute and tested right before calving season. Turns out the infected cows were brought in junk from a neighboring state. Did not end well according to the neighbors. Cautionary tales like this keep stupidity at bay for the most part.
As for the cow that has a calf, she wasn’t open if she calved. Some guys do buy culls to feed out, if they are bred they can be rebred and sold. | |
