| I’m 51 and have never owned a sprayer, but my son and I are thinking about getting into one for ourselves now. We have about 1,600-1,700 acres of corn/soybeans with a little wheat sometimes. We plant in 20” rows with a 40’ 24 row planter. Thinking about looking into an Apache sprayer due to the lighter weight and simplicity. Would consider a Rogator too, have Butler Machinery close by. Trying to spend $100,000 max, hopefully well under that. Our corn and beans have all been sprayed at an angle, but would like to try spraying at least the corn, down the rows. Would we need 320 tires to do this on 20” rows? 380s are a lot more common, we wouldn’t have to drive so fast like the custom guys do. What size boom would be best, or doesn’t it matter to match up to the 40’ planter? Also, I see different nozzle spacing, what difference does this make? Test drove an older 2007 Rogator this summer, was terribly loud in the cab with motor wound up, are the newer ones better? Would not want to sit in that cab all day. What years would I want to avoid for wheel motor trouble? With the Apaches, they say you can throttle the motor back and shift up if you don’t need full power, since you don’t need it wound up tight for the hydrostatic system? Anybody run these and like them? | |
