N.E. MT | A percentage of open cows will have irreparable damage. I’d say to expect 8-12% open if normal is 5%. I’ve not seen issues calving them and having them raise calves. Keep them trim early on and start ramping up 45 days prior to bulls. Careful not to overdo the feed. Thin open cows will most likely be thin and open again soon. I’d try to start with younger better stock personally. Or just get into some thin short terms wean calves early and send the cows down the road. | |
