Beef is becoming the new dairy industry. Have to be setup to feed hundreds of them. It also may be the last thing a guy can do on a small scale with a little labor, which isn’t a bad thing. We feed with buckets, a lot of them. But on some days I figure I can get a lot done with my body and buckets by the time I goof around with a bunch of equipment and moving around. Been considering adding silage to spread work load but the way I figure is that it only takes away a small amount of acres from the combine and “spreads” my workload over months to feed it out. I can’t seem to find better than corn and hay at my size. I would consider haylage just to get a leg up on being weather susceptible, hard to find 3-4 days of sunshine anymore unless it’s a drought. I also don’t want to screw with silos, bags, or bunks. A lot of efficiency can be made in planning rather than just throwing equipment at it. It’s as simple as having a clean and clear path to get to your everyday items. Not stumbling around plastic and a junk pickup that hasn’t ran in 25 years. If you are content cash cropping I don’t see what would drag you into feeding anything because everything has to be supersized monoculture anymore.
