Western Ontario
We crop about 1500 acres, my straight cash crop neighbors like to talk about how hard they work through the winter, rebuilding and maintaining equipment(in their heated shop), moving snow to get the wife to work, hauling grain when the weathers fit, we’re in the middle of a 3 day blizzard, I’ve got to get 500 head of cattle fed, winter calvers have started to calve, snow to move at 4 locations so we can feed and keep everything running, good chance it will be a real battle the next 90 days, my cash crop neighbors look at all that and would rather just keep doing what they’re doing. Also while they were maybe raised 40 years ago with livestock I think they’ve probably lost a lot of the animal husbandry skills to be successful at it. I’m not sure what calves would have to be worth before they’d ever start building fence, they’d have to actually get out of the hi hoe to do that, not bad guys and not lazy, just not calibrated for cows and livestock.
