Eastern NE KS | I have 4 Mira fountain and one Ritchey. All 5 have they valve mounted in the air space above the water level. That design avoids a potential reservoir leak.
Corbett did the exact opposite mounting their valve at the bottom of the reservoir, risking a leaky seal to gain freeze protection for the immersed valve.
I wish my waterers had the valve on the bottom in the reservoir because the valve will freeze before the balls and once that occurs the balls drop with the next cow drinking but there is no new warm water added. Now, with the water gone the balls or wafers are not close to the lid and cold air is freely entering the reservoir body.
