Windchill will freeze a skin over mine, keeping the water low helps quite a bit.

Only time mine has froze the supply bib below the basket was when I lost water pressure, cattle drank it down to an inch or two in the bottom. Well, naturally it froze up.

I have the smaller version, several decades now. I’ve seen -33f actual temps.
