Eastern NE KS | I guess I don't get out enough. Selling bred heifers has been a good ticket the last 2 years. I'm saving more heifers to see what comes. When I sell something, I close the door to future options. I have not sold the steers yet either but I won't feed them out. The over next 90 days, every Friday I will decide if I sell the following Tuesday. So far, market prospects look good and improving.
I finished reviewing my heifer calf crop. I had 37 females plan to sell the late born, a dink, a one eyed and a fast growing masculine looking heifer(s). That leaves 17 registered angus, and 9 commercials for a total of 26 potential replacements. These will be synced and time-AI'ed. Wait 5 days and see a cleanup bull for 14 days. Eventually, opens will be sold as feeders.
The big change is number exposed (26) up by ~11 hd and the length of cleanup, reduced by ~45 days.
Unplanned, is if I choose to sell any bred heifers. It depends on number of cull cows from spring calving time.
