t-boss - 12/29/2025 17:07 I think if you look in to it, worldwide cattle numbers are down from 20 years ago. Most countries are down even more than we are. Another thing to consider is the 10 year cattle cycle starting to synchronize worldwide with the global market. In the past the cycle skipped from country to country as local conditions dictated. Interesting idea of the traditional cattle cycles synchronizing. Makes sense as we are in a world wide trade even in beef. Traditional cattle cycles seemed to come from the cyclical rise and fall of supply and demand in a more or less free market. I wonder though if we will even have traditional cattle cycles in the future. For example, just as calf prices were getting high enough recently for US cow/calf producers to consider retaining heifers, our government steps in and says "prices are too high, let's import more beef" to keep prices down. That sure seemed to quickly dampen enthusiasm for saving heifers. Should I take advantage of good calf prices now or hold a heifer hoping for enough more $$ in 2028 to defer selling more heifers now and increase my herd size? Or do I just plant corn and beans with govt programs etc ? Corn, beans and heading south sure sounds good today with cold near zero F and winds
