I read about that many years ago in one of my books about Buffet. Warren didn't always agree with his father.
One thing I found odd about Buffett's teachings, is sometimes he would purposefully go outside his own wheelhouse if he saw opportunity. The time that comes to mind is when he essentially cornered the silver market. And through a gentlemans agreement kept the market from completely colapsing. He basically had the banks by the balls and let them off the hook. He did not want a banking colapse. They could not do him like the Hunt brothers because he wasn't using the leverage so the market had no leverage on him. He got a lot of political good will with that move.
