SC Minnesota | This probably won't be popular. If you are split applying N closer to when the corn needs it, you can lower that rate of applied N by 15-20 lbs/acre instead of adding another 5 lbs/acre N (assuming you don't have very wet May/June weather). I find no advantage to applying more than 150 lbs/acre N and many years only need 140 lbs/ac following soybeans when applied closer to crop uptake. (Typical program for me is 1/3 of N with planter and 2/3 y-drop in SC MN yields 220-260). | |
