In the past I have gone with 170lbs of fall applied NH3 w/n-serve for corn after beans
This year I have 125lbs N w/n-serve on with fall applied NH3
When is the best time to add another 50lbs of N?
What % should ATS?
Any other advice is appreciated Thx
With advice from other people always tried two growth stages before a point of influence. So if you're trying to get to that v5 V6 I would be putting it on at v3. Common sense would tell us we need time for that nitrogen to get into the soil, the plant to take it up and to start to do something with it
Beck's pfr and other agronomic journals that will back that up with their data
Would also recommend doing a soil test at V3. if you're trying to hit that V5 V6 stage to help you determine what kind of nitrogen levels you have in the soil. University of Wisconsin, University of Iowa have some good articles about doing that.
If you have the equipment that would allow you to go in at V7 or V8, you might get more bang for your buck. Kansas State for example has research shows us that from V10 to VT is when The corn consumes a lot of N. So if you have the ability to hold off till V8 without denying the corn, anything and you're not going to damage the crop by trying to mechanically run through it at that point that's what I would shoot for
ATS I like a 10% blend because of my soils, chances are in southern MN you have a lot more OM so a 3-5% might meet your needs?
