I've been debt free for 18 years.   Not hard to do.  No debt, no operating loan.   Actually made two land purchases in the last 10 years, paid at the time of purchase.

And without context means nothing. Glad it wasn’t hard for you, there would be more than 2% of the population farming if that were true nationwide though. Paying for a quarter in North Dakota with cash doesn’t take much, pay for a good black dirt quarter in Iowa with cash and you’re doing something. Hobby farming a few hundred acres vs agriculture as the sole income source. Born on third base in your operation with everything handed to you; vs buying your first acre with zero outside help. Timing also plays a large role. Pretty easy to accumulate ground in the 60s and 70s
compared to today.

Get kinda tired listening to the guy in his 70s that’s farmed his whole life tell about how good of an operator they are. You’d better be if that’s all you’ve done, any other business you’d be retired living on the interest alone from the profitably of the business. Rant over.

I'm debt free. 46 years old. Above average size for "here". Started farming from scratch 23 years ago. No help whatsoever. It can be done. But your probably not gonna like what it took to get to this point. Everything in life is a trade off. I'm happy and don't really care.
