The post below about farming without the bank is interesting. Piperfarmer mentioned being 100% debt free and coup mentioned it might be more common than some would think. It's a question I've thought about asking for the past few weeks but haven't. How many of us that still farm are 100% debt free? I mean no Land, Operating, Machinery, Home mortgage, Bins/Buildings or Credit Card debts.
Is it even a good goal to have? Could only a stagnating operation achieve and maintain this status?
Don't remember posting that 100% debt free farmers is more common than some think. From what I have seen , my guess around 75% of the crop planted requires borrowed $ . Talked to guy that sets on bank board , that said I am probably in the ballpark with that number.
Current problem going forward looks to me is going to be squeeze- crisis. Every time a farm operation buys ground @ current prices with cash or borrowed $ liquidity of the farm operation is being reduced.
