NEMO | Sometimes the definition between developed and pushed is kind of blurry. Plenty of time to properly do it between weaning and say stage 2. You are in much better grass country than most of MO, generally speaking fescue fed hfs need some push at some point. If a hf here calves what I would call thin, she has a hard time catching up, and many don't. Genetics is a whole different subject, no use getting into that now. I can't remember but one C-section in all my days, and that was an early bred hf that calved at about 15 months, bred before weaning (StockTalk says it doesn't happen), lot easier to call a vet than in the rare event it does happen. The guy below has an excellent suggestion about walking through them, or maybe a little treat close to the calving pen as the time gets near. | |
