If you have everything on hand and don't need to call a vet that's the best thing.
Once you learn how to correct an improper calf position and
are confident in pulling them, the rest is pretty easy.
C sections are not that hard either.
Once a cow or heifer is fully dilated i don't let them
dilly dally around. I'll just pull it if no progress.
You want to feed them enough they keep growing,
but don't want excess fat in the birth canal.
Heifers will put feed to growing before putting it to the calf.
Cows will put it to the calf more.
Watch the poop and keep a body score of 6 at
calving time.
All this being said i won't buy calves background out of feedyards or
grown in front of a bunk.
I want them grown on grass out west walking around.
