Sounds like the coop guys aren't that great of operators (around here they weren't either) 
I did custom app for nearly 25 years, I made it a point to get to my customers field within 36 hours of the call. When they called I had them prioritize the fields, and every field was sprayed within 6 days or less of the call.
I sprayed ~20,000 - 25,000A per year, 100% by myself, also spread ~10,000A of fertilizer, and 10,000 tons of lime per year.

WOW at $12 per A, I need to get back in. LOL
