When the spread is 4 dollars an ounce you take delivery off of comex, load the metal out, ship it to China and sell it. When done on airplane load quantities a very large amount of arbitrage can be earned. As long as Shanghai stays a good premium to comex this is what is going to happen unless the govt steps in.
To take delivery you go long, let the contract enter the delivery period, deposit the money in your account to fully purchase at contract price, tell your broker to notify comex you are taking delivery, hire an armored car service to pick it up and then have them deliver it wherever you want it to go.
You can do this with both gold and silver. | |
