What kind of house? Big beautiful old farmhouse like Farmer82's? or a modern modular home? Also how bad is the humidity? if you set it at 50, and don't come back till it gets into the 70's for a couple weeks, that can lead to mold. If you can adjust the temp, keeping it 20 above outdoor temp, down to a low of 40 could work fine for most houses.
