Subject: Poaching Workers

Michigan
I need an experienced sprayer operator. We farm about 4,000 acres and need to go to spraying ourselves instead of relying on custom sprayers. I’ve done a lot of spraying myself but can’t do it all. Does anyone have experience poaching a guy from the local coop? What would you do? Experienced people are hard to come by. I figure we could pay way better than the coop and we would have help year round…. I trained a guy once for the job, took all summer, it was stressful but he was good to go at the end of summer then I had to let him go the next year for health reasons he wasn’t able to safely operate machinery so I’m nervous to expend the effort and money to train a newbie. I know of a couple great guys at the local coops but maybe it’s a bad idea. I also think I can really save some money for the 9,000 acres we cover at $12 per acre….
