East of Broken Bow | I bought a gearbox that came from Canada last month. I had a gearbox going out, and it was far cheaper to get it direct from the manufacturer than at the Case dealership. Neighbor gave me the information as he needed the same gearbox last year, and found where it was made, and he got it for just under $1200 delivered to his door. I don't remember the breakdown of how much was for the box, and how much for shipping, but total cost was right around $1200.
My gearbox was $850, plus freight, and I thought it was odd that it actually went down in price. However, I got billed separately for 'tariff and shipping' to the tune of another $445 in round numbers, bringing the total to just shy of $1300.
Our price difference was around $100 total, but my understanding wat that the tariff was supposedly about 50% at the time, which had me wondering why the overall price was so similar.
Had me wondering if there wasn't always a tariff or duty on the box, and they just chose now to separate it out and bill it separately to make it look like the tariffs were causing high prices.
My other thought was that the gearbox company maybe lowered the price to help the customer better afford the gearbox, but I wouldn't think they would be willing to eat $400 in profit over a gearbox. | |
