The CEO pay discussion is pretty interesting. For one, it's actually a side show compared to the real ruling class, but to the Tyson example... This guy really makes $34m/year running that place? Compare that to the number 2 guy (CFO or COO) who probably makes a mere pittance of say 2 ish million or something like that. Quite modest. So the gap from the very top to just the near top I find interesting. Another thing that is interesting is transparency actually made the problem worse. Who would have guessed that? Once all the companies were required to disclose their pay, it was off to the races. I mean how are you gonna pay your guy "average". Are you hiring an "average" CEO?? IF so, then why!? So of course you need to pay him better than the "average guy" right!!!?? The other thing that is interesting is some of the CEOs are probably worth every cent. Take Satya Nadella at MSFT or Tim Cook at Apple. You could probably make an argument they should be paid more. But a lot of these guys are simply Fraternity Brother presidents getting theres and then out the door. They get the job at 58 and have mandatory retirement at 66. That said I dont think most of these guys are worth what they are paid. This might not have translated too well to text on this forum but in short it's a really good discussion and the pay is nuts in aggregate. And I think it leads to the balkanization some of society.
