Im curious as to why you dont no-til your wheat?
I see what your doing.. you're trying to get me in trouble.. lol. Last time I put up a pic.. about this time a year ago.. we didnt run a tillage pass ahead of the drill.. due to "Dryness".. I made the Cardinal Sin of posting that I "no tilled" it on NAT here.. we ran a pass of rup instead.. which I'm STILL gonna say.. we didnt till it.. that time.. but.. I've learned.. that's similar to saying.. "the dog ate my homework." It was the best crop I've raised.. but this k the 3 years of banked fertility.. less what I cut back on.. had a hand in it also.. hmmm.
So yes.. we did till before planting..this year.. after a couple passes with the chiesel.. to thoroughly incorporate the 200 years of kochia seed.. from the dry spell.. after running an under cutter.. and a sprayer.. to knock back the pigweeds.. which can grow prolificly with moisture.. so.. "probably doesnt" fit.. most definitions.. of "no till".. on NAT.
Ken Burns will probably be along soon to say "y'all shouldn't plant wheat anyway.." to which.. my response is "It's Tradition to plant "poverty grass" then debate whether it was tilled.. as well as "how dry" it "relatively" is.. so.. there's that.
I didn’t have him.. but there was an agronomy professor at (hand over heart) K -State.. whom would talk about his brother running a triple nickle Versatile.. "Every Spring.. he'd be afflicted.. to fire that sucker up.. and burn $$$.. just because he could.. for no particular reason.. other than his own personal satisfaction if accomplishment."
And.. I guess that explanation works for me also.. even "the boy" questioned the 2nd chielseling.
But since he's labor.. and I'm management.. I'm pretty sure I'm correct.
Btw Kochia.. Pigweed.. can grow pretty fast.. once the canopy is removed.. Roundup.. only pisses it off anymore.
Yup.. "Diesel Fever."
