Subject: RE: Biffle plane crash?

Dan Gryder on YouTube's "Probable Cause" gave his thoughts on Sunday night. He can get a little rough and outspoken but he laid out his speculation on what happened. An interesting take on it, plus some actual audio from the cockpit - check it out. He says the Citation2 can't maintain altitude on one engine with gear down and full flaps, which he said was the configuration when it crashed (normally you never go to full flaps until you've made the runway). Basically, pilot error after engine problem. Also, he said the NTSB is wrong - that particular model isn't and can't be flown legally single pilot, and there was only one pilot type-rated for the Citation2. Some Citations you can get an exemption for single pilot - this model you cannot. The other two (the pilot's son and Biffle) were not type-rated for the Citation2, so technically they were not legal. Don't shoot the messenger, just Dan Gryder's opinion...

Edited to add: For those that don't watch Probable Cause... Gryder said that jet could fly all day on one engine in a clean configuration. They could have cleaned up the plane, flown to a large airport that was only 30-40 miles away with a better ILS approach system, and easily sailed right in. It almost appears that with less than ideal visibility they may have been in too much of a hurry to get back on the ground and passed up better alternatives. Admittedly, this is speculation and subject to change if new facts are found.
