On our ride to grand pa house we would sometimes take a different road. I remember going past a place with snow fence ring corn cribs. This farmer had a bunch of them, more than usual. They looked a bit old, even to my young eyes. I asked Dad why this farmer had so many. He chuckled, and said Mr. X did not like to pay income tax, so we would not sell all of his corn each year. His corn cribs grew in number each year. Dad said the rats and shrink/spoilage was going to take a hit on his profits. lol. Don't think they ever shelled them out until Mr. X died. Good old 1950/60's days.
P.S. Don't forget to tie baling string around the bottom of you pants before shelling out those cribs.
I seen were neighbors burned up several rings of corn after a old timer passed away. The piles were all cobs.
