Pittsburg, Kansas | See above explanation when is enough enough.
Part of it was by accident. Two or three months ago I thought diversifying into some cash was not a bad idea. So I put in several laddered sell orders at a price I would be happy with. Well above the highest price I ever paid for CEF when Sprot first made that avenue available. So I laddered up sales orders I though to the point would never get filled. I had enough old dog stocks I could take as losses plus some carryover losses I have been taking 2 grand a year at a time loss the IRS allowed. Thought a good time to take at least enough gains to use up those old losses plus a dozen or so dogs that a lot of them didn;t even have a ticker any more. That was the plan.
Then the market kind of took on a life of its own. Not only did the ones I wanted to fill get filled, but the higher ones did too. That actually felt pretty good. So got to talking to wife and we decided having some CD's and cash at our age wasn't a horrible idea so I put in another batch of sell orders. Some of them got filled too. It's crazy. I keep 5 different accounts in Yahoo, both personal coporate and IRA's so I can look anytime and see what things are doing. Scary. I see bigger moves in our accounts daily than I used to see farming net profit or loss in a year. It is wild.
I have sold only around 10% of our metals stocks. I didn'f figure having a little extra cash was all that bad. There are worse things than having to pay taxes. We even get to do it twice as we pay dividends out of the corporate accounts.
I'm a horrible manager. But being lucky is the next best thing. |
