Pittsburg, Kansas | I have been learning that one key to "healthy" longivity is maintain muscle strength. Old people lose muscle strength. This causes falls. One key to maintaing muscle strength is to do weight training. Either body weight exercises or with weights. I do push ups, pull ups and squats or while down here in Bonaire I climb the stairs enough times a day I call that my leg exercise. I also do sprints 4 or 5 times a week for cordination and heart/breathing rate increase.
It is all too easy for a person as we age to get too used to the easy chair. Too much of time spent in the easy chair is a health killer, in my opinion.
High quality protein is also improtant as we age. We actually need lots more protein than a young person because our old body does not absorb and process it nearly as effectively as when we were young. And plant protein is not nearly effective (lower bio availability) and does not usually have all the essential amino acids needed, so eat your meat!
