| Old farmhouse I lived in till I was 12 had no insulation or indoor plumbing. Had a fuel oil furnace on under the downstairs floor. My bed room was upstairs, only heat was what came up through a metal grate in the floor. Many mornings I woke up with a coating of snow on my blankets. When it got really cold I slept downstairs on a chair that folded down into a chair. I learned at a young age that when you went to the outhouse when it was cold you didn’t sit completely down on the wooden seat. | |
