Plus build a house, barns, fences, and wells. If I tore my stone house down I would guess there to be 60 to 70 dump truck loads of rip rap. I am 2 miles from the nearest place there could have been a quarry. My little ford ranger pickup probably can haul what a team of horses can haul at a real speed. It boggles my mind how much them people worked. The neighbor said about my place, you have to remember there was probably 70 or 80 people working there. My home was built in 1864.

That is quite the house. Are there more like that in the area or was this a unique build?

Only one this fancy and big. There are other stone houses close but different color stone. I think the stone from this one came from 4 miles away. I was told of this other quarry. The nearby stone houses look like the exposed stone of the closest former quarry. It had been in the family for 5 generations. The guy went out on the gold rush and bought this place when he came back from his future father in law. The youngest daughter was two grades ahead of me and good looking! The thought never even occurred to me!
