Central, PA | We have a lot of little fields with woods around. I haven't been farming long but if you add up all the little things it seems to help. In the bad deer fields, above average pops, drill vs planter, as many fields in soybeans as possible in one chunk, go with a taller statured soybean, bush is better, and then cut first. Also don't underestimate the damage rabbits do when they're young. They never eat below the growing point but can really keep the edges trimmed down before the trifoliate. In my 30" organic fields where there are few deer around it is just shocking how the edges can get set back because of rabbits. Of course lead is the answer to the problem but that sure takes time. | |
