We like our chain drive defacer. Does great in corn silage. In grass/alfalfa haylage it works hard. Like the result and job it does but it works a lot harder than in corn silage. Triticale silage I would say it’s somewhere in between. Has an easier job than in grass haylage but not quite as smooth as corn silage. Still does a very good job in all 3 but works machine and takes slightly more time. Never been around a hydraulic drive. Have not had to do a lot of Maintaining our chain drive, adjust chain/replace chain only. Milking 180 for scale reference.
