Subject: RE: Single axel grain truck still used?

Here in WC-IN most of the smaller local elevators have sold out to large farmers. Except for what goes into our bins most of our grain is trucked to elevators 20 - 50 miles away. To our bins some of our grain is trucked up to 15 miles one way. We do have a corn processor about 6 miles away but very seldom do they take corn over 16% and its not unusual to wait 2+ hours to get unloaded. As the saying goes "if you have to wait in line to dump 300 bu you might as well wait in line to dump a 1,000 bu

Single & tandem trucks are rare to see in a line at an elevator unless it's someone who is lucky enough to live within a few miles of that elevator. Off the top of my head, except for what is hauled into bins, much less than 5% of grain in this area is hauled in single axle , tandem trucks, & even wagons. Locally very little is even hauled into bins in anything smaller than semis, and most of those are 1,000bu +

We have a one owner IH 1700 single ale truck with a 15' bed with under 55,000 miles that takes up room in a shed. Probably should sell it but about the time I think about selling it we get it out to haul a load of dirt, brush, or broken up concrete.
