| I watched the documentary “Farmers Daughter” the other day, very well done and a neat story from central Illinois about a young woman who left her TV news anchor job to go back to her dad’s farm after her brother died in a accident on the day he was going to come back to farm with his dad. Anyway, it’s a successful 1,500ac corn and bean farm with fairly modern nice equipment. I was really surprised to see that they only use two single axel straight trucks to do all their hauling, at harvest and throughout the year. Is it very common to still use these little trucks in the central corn belt? I don’t see how they could keep up with 230+ bu/ac corn, we use two 34’ semis here, and have trouble keeping it hauled away sometimes in 180-200 bu corn. I’m not criticizing anyone, just curious, it’s always interesting to learn about how things are done in other parts of the country! | |
