Northeastern Pa.
I've been trying to justify a bin for over 40 years. Yea a little too late now. This area is not a big grain area so not many bins. It's a 120+mile round trip for me at harvest to take my beans and corn. Not efficient at all at harvest but there is a positive side. When I'm done, I'm done. No hauling in bad weather, no electric bills, no gas bills, no bin or dryer maint. bills, no bin building delays, no poor workmanship on bins, no climbing, no cleaning the bins and dryer etc., no waiting for a dryer repair man or a crane to fix down pipes etc.. If I lived with that many elevators that close, I wouldn't even consider bins. What is their storage cost? I'd rather put my money where I know I'll get a return-in the crop itself. With that all being said if your dead set on a bin get it done while you're young. I didn't need bins until 10 years ago when the local mills and dairy farms went out. I sold silage and high moisture shell corn. Good luck.
