| Switched to pelletized gypsum in fall strips several years ago and won't go back. As others have said, AMS will release the N and sulfate too soon and be susceptible to losses.
Elemental Sulfur can be and option, but only if you are using it every year as research has shown it can take several years to release the entire amount intended. Warmer soils in Kansas will help you with the conversion rate. In our cool soils of NC Iowa that conversion takes much longer as that conversion of S to SO4 requires heat (70 degree soil temp) that we don't see until June most years. | |
