SC Minnesota | I have in the past used AMS in the strip, but since almost all my strips are made in the fall, I was susceptible to losing not only the nitrogen but also the sulfur before the plant needed it. I am now using elemental sulfur only in the strip. I am farming clay loam soils with 25-40 cec's and 4-8% organic matter. Most years I thought the sulfur was there when needed when using AMS. I started to use ats with my 32 off the planter so it was less important for the sulfur in the strip-till application to be available immediately in the spring. I don't know if there is a limit to how much you put in the strip, unless your fields have low pH and could tie up some nutrients short-term with a flash of acidity from a concentrated high rate of sulfur. | |
