We took the "Canadian" train from Vancouver to Toronto in the fall about 10 years ago and then on to Montreal. We enjoyed the trip but it is not inexpensive. We flew back home to the west coast.
Winter get pretty rough in a good portion of that rail trip so things could turn ugly in a hurry.
