Hello again.

Just wondering if a Trimble 372 can get Glonass WITHOUT a RTK base station. As in putting it on top of the tractor and using it to get GPS/Wass and Glonass all by itself no BASE STATION.

I have read some posts but they all talk about it in the aspect of RTK and RTK bases transmitting Glonass, and I need to know if it has to be RTK unlocked to get Glonass or if the Wass unlock will do.

Thanks. :-)

I imagine (but don't actually know for sure) that a 372 unlocked for both RTK and GLONASS wouldn't have any issue with using GLONASS but not RTK. There's certainly no technical reason that requires any GNSS receiver to be using RTK in order to use GLONASS.

I agree with others that GLONASS will not do what you want it to do. It won't improve accuracy any meaningful amount and it won't do anything for repeatability. It's just more satellites, better reception for hills and trees, fundamentally it doesn't really improve accuracy much.

I assume that one of the reasons you are exploring this is to save the cost of an RTK unlock? Physically getting hold of a 372 with a GLONASS unlock but not an RTK unlock could be an issue. Originally the RTK unlock was a prerequisite to activating a GLONASS unlock. Later the GLONASS unlock became bundled with the RTK unlock. I believe the GLONASS unlock was also bundled with the OmniStar unlock at one point, that'd be the only way to get a 372 with GLONASS unlocked but not RTK unlocked.

So if you're thinking you can get a 372 with no unlocks and then just add a GLONASS unlock to it, no, I don't think that's possible. And if it was, it wouldn't really do what you want.

Are you using the Trimble 500 attached to anything? EZ Boom, EZ steer, a hydraulic valve, anything? There are low cost open source options that might be able to do what you want. If you like, tell me your needs, what you've got on your tractor, and your model tractor and I'll give you some ideas.
